Talking to Databases

Watch this helpful video created by the Kent State University Libraries. It will help you to understand how to conduct research using keywords and search operators (also known as Boolean operators) in order to reduce the frustration that occurs when you cannot seem to find the articles that you want for your research paper (or project).

INFOhio

INFOhio is a comprehensive digital library that serves educators, students, and families of students throughout the state of Ohio. It is made available through the generous support of library, education, and technology partnerships. Research databases, educator and librarian resources, school library automation systems, and course modules support the educational needs of Ohio's residents. Please see the librarian for the district username and password if you want to access INFOhio from home.

Go! Ask Act Achieve

INFOhio's Go! Ask Act Achieve is a guide for student researchers to follow as they complete research projects. It walks students through the research process, teaching them to ask the right questions, take appropriate steps to find and evaluate information, and decide how to present and/or publish their work. Each step of the way, students are provided with exercises and resources to help them through the research process. A LiveBinder teacher's guide is available for additional educator support.

IWonder

IWonder is INFOhio's newest research tool, aimed primarily at students in grades 3-9, though there is very good information here for students of all ages. It consists of a collection of topically arranged websites vetted by Ohio school librarians. New sites will be added regularly, so check back often to see the latest and greatest!

Research 4 Success (R4S)

Research 4 Success is a course developed for high school juniors and seniors and is intended to be facilitated by a teacher in conjunction with a research project. There are six skill-building course modules that can be embedded into a learning management system or used straight from INFOhio's website. After completing these modules, students will be equipped to conduct effective research in college and/or careers after high school. Teachers may register in order to receive access to additional materials and support. Research for Success is licensed by INFOhio under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License.
